Great Day! It’s a
beautiful day in the Neighborhood! ...Ok,
so I’ve been pondering all morning of how I can better serve those that I am
destined to serve. And for those new to my ‘landing’...here’s the snapshot...I am destined to bring-forth the
SEQ-power of GreaterDC and bring-together our Community-Champs, {newbie} Managers,
Executives, Mentors, and Coaches.
Throughout the brain-storm...I became curious about
something...and decided to pose this
power-question: Are you seeking to enrich and transcend a mentoring styled
culture within your department/organization?
If so, and you want to talk-it-through; I’d love for you to
buzz me (301) 899-0713 – and let us
get the conversation(s) started. But if
you’re not quite ready to discuss...may I offer you some insight to begin formalizing
your base-line? This is what I’ve begun prescribing
to all my Newbies {also delightful for my Sages}; as they are interested in
treating their Folks to the compelling mind-set and the PRO-activity of social/emotional-intelligence
{SEQ}. They are also taking-on the Mentor/Coach
likeness to invite team-chemistry, innovation, ingenuity, and creativity to
co-collaborate.
It’s been coined Power
Mentoring. Corp-Executives and
Community Leaders alike are utilizing this particular knowledge to spruce-up
the organizational landscaping a bit. ...Speaking
of landscapes – if you’d like to explore said context in PRO-creation; check
out the stories behind the inner-branding of General Electric {GE} and
IMB. They have/had the lead on what’s
considered ‘lineage of mentoring relationships’...the warm connections as we like to call it within the SEQ-Coaching
community. {Dr.} Professor Ellen Ensher
of Loyola Marymount Univ. and co-author Susan Murphy has crafted this
brilliance into context inside their book titled Power Mentoring. They break-it-down
into (3) steps: (a) Know Thyself. (b) Reflect on who to reach-out to. (c) Connect
with courage.
Branching-out from my POV – it would do us the most good to
begin {genuinely} promoting our People...and creating workplaces that encourage
the wealth of their {true} inner-strength(s).
To tap into such strength requires the acquaintance of Self. Secondly, it’s invaluable to have {encouraged}
access to those under-the-umbrella that we can {immediately} reach-out to,
confide-in, and explore the possibilities with.
Thirdly, having the courage to connect with those we look-to for
direction is paramount! Most often, our
staffers hold-back and/or fear {negative} consequences when considering to
solicit for soundboards inside the organization. But honestly, those positioned higher or with
sturdy tenure are our {absolute} best mentors.
...And the interesting part is...if we were to groom them as
mentors/coaches and then allow them total autonomy to express/coach/guide/groom-freely;
they are surely the ones that could {brilliantly} apply the balm to much of the
inter-departmental conflicts and office mayhem that many of us encounter on a
daily basis {especially inside the larger; more epic-styled organizations}. Instead of overlooking and/or
pushing-it-under-the-rug...let’s {genuinely} consider and encourage them to absorb
the power of mentoring to resolve and soothe our office aches-&-pains. Today,
we lean-back. Tomorrow {and definitely upon the paradigm-shifts toward
coach-mentoring}, we will lean-in...we will guide...we will groom...we will
power-mentor!
